It is good to be back !
As we flew into Geneva, David realized that this was the longest period of time that he'd ever spent out of his native country, and it was good to be coming home. It has been wonderful to revisit family and friends, to introduce Jude to the Swiss culture, and to take in the beauty of springtime in Switzerland ! The first week of our time here was spent on relational activities - dinners with friends, visits with family, a trip to France for the guys (David with his dad, brother, and uncle), and an open house that enabled us to see a good number of people.
Jude and I (Elise) visited the church where we are members, and which has sent us out as missionaries to Quebec. I was given the opportunity to bring the Sunday morning message -- which I did entirely in French after receiving much encouragement from David ! It was a gift to reconnect with our faith family here.
We have now been at the YWAM base in Wiler (in the German part of the country) for a few days, and will be staying here until June 12th. It is here that the RescueNet emergency response training will take place, and David and the other staff have already been hard at work preparing the lectures and practical aspects of the course.
We will be starting the two-week intensive training on Sunday, and I look forward to learning about the various components of rapid-response, including medical first-aid, search and rescue, security procedures, and psychological support, among other topics. God calls us to care for and bring the love of Jesus to those who are hurting and in need, and David and I are in the process of equipping ourselves for the doors God will open in this area in the future.
It will be a challenge for us to do the training with a six-month-old, as David and I are both highly involved in the training (as staff and student), but we are blessed and grateful to the staff for their flexibility and willingness to let us be here as a family !
Thank you to all who prayed for our childcare situation ! As of one week ago, we have found babysitters for every day of the training, and Jude will be well taken care of in our absence ! We have seven different individuals who have offered their time and energy to us, and we are extremely grateful !
Just to give you a heads-up, we will be quite disconnected from any form of communication during the training, but we will do our best to check emails and WhatsApp when we have the chance.
Prayer requests during our training:
-That Jude would sleep well and allow David and I to rest after our long days of training.
-For grace for our babysitters and strength for Jude, as he will be switching frequently from one caregiver to the next !
-That Elise would be able to pump enough milk to leave for Jude during her longer moments of absence.
-For wisdom for David as he helps run the training and as he teaches on various topics.
-For health and safety during the training.
Thank you for your prayers !
