A report from India

Bonjour à tous,
Voici quelques nouvelles de mon temps en Inde.
Je commence par m’excuser du délai pour ce feed-back, mais malheureusement mon sac n’est jamais revenu d’Inde et ça m’a pris beaucoup d’énergie d’essayer de le retrouver…. En vain. Donc, comme vous l’aviez entendu, l’Inde, plus précisément la région de Kerala a été touché par des pluies torrentielles cet automne. C’est afin d’aider la population que je suis parti avec une équipe de 4 personnes mettre mes capacités au service de la population.
Tout d’abord, un immense merci aux personnes qui m’ont soutenu dans cette aventure tant financièrement que spirituellement. Durant ce temps nous avons été capables de secourir 6 familles qui avait du être déplacées dans des camp de réfugiés. Notre travail consistait principalement à enlever la boue des maisons, nettoyer les murs, évacuer les objets détruits et lorsque nous le pouvions racheter des fournitures de bases. Notre objectif était de rendre les habitations viables afin que les déplacés puissent rejoindre leur foyer dans les plus brefs délais. Une fois que nous avions réussi à dégoter une pompe, nous avons été capable de nettoyer les puits de certains quartiers afin que les gens aient accès à l’eau potable.
Merci de m’avoir accompagné dans ce projet qui m’a fait grandir dans plein d’aspects de mon leadership et m’a permis d’avoir une nouvelle expérience de terrain. Les défis ont été nombreux : les difficultés de communication avec nos contacts locaux, la rencontre de cobra venimeux à l’endroit ou nous dormions, le risque de « rat fever » qui ont tué à eux deux plus de personnes que les inondations elles-mêmes.
Petit témoignage pour la fin qui démontre la fidélité de Dieu : J’ai tout d’abord volé sur Bengalore afin de rejoindre mes équipiers pour voler tous ensemble sur Kochi, notre destination finale. Arrivé à Bengalore, je m’approche du comptoir d’information pour obtenir des détails sur notre prochain vol. A ce moment, l’hôtesse surprise me rétorque que l’aéroport de Kochi est inondé et que tout les vols pour les 3 prochains jours en direction de Kochi sont annulés. Nous priions et faisons confiance à Dieu. Mais puisque j’ai un boarding pass dans les mains, je retourne vers l’hôtesse qui me sort le meme discours. J’insiste et lui demande de vérifier l’information auprès d’une autre personne ! Elle fait un téléphone et devient livide, elle boucle et m’annonce confuse qu’elle ne comprends pas, qu’il y a effectivement un seul vol prévu ce jour et que c’est le notre ! Nous sommes ravis !
Quelques heures plus tard, nous nous envolons. Nous sommes interpellés par un des passagers qui nous demande ce que nous faisons là….. Nous lui expliquons et en discutant avec lui nous nous rendons compte du miracle. Nous sommes dans un vol en direction de l’aéroport militaire de Kochi, spécialement affrété pour envoyer du personnel travailler sur l’aéroport de Kochi afin de le rendre opérationnel ! Il n’y avait aucune chance pour que des « touristes » comme nous puissent entre dans un tel avion, mais rien n’est impossible à mon Dieu !
Je n’ai pas pris beaucoup de photos, mais j’en poste quelques unes afin que vous puissiez mettre des images sur mes mots. Que la Gloire de Christ continue de se répandre sur terre.

Here is a short report of my time in India.
I would like to start by apologizing for the delay in getting this news to you. Unfortunately, my bag and personal belongings never made it back from India and it took a lot of energy and time trying to recover it...in vain.
As you may have heard, India -and more precisely the region of Kerala- was hit by torrential rains this past autumn. In order to aid the population, I, along with a team of four people, left for India to put our skills to use serving the affected communities.
First of all, I would like to thank those of you who supported me in this adventure, both financially and spiritually. During our time in India, we were able to help six families that had been displaced by the flooding and were living in refugee camps. Our work mainly consisted of removing mud from the homes, cleaning the walls, evacuating destroyed objects and -when we could- buying basic furniture for the families. The water marks on the wall were over seven feet high ! At one point we found a pump and we were able to clean the wells in some of the neighborhoods so that the people could have access to drinkable water.
Thank you for having accompanied me in this project that helped me grow in many aspects of my leadership, and that allowed me to have a new experience on the field. There were many challenges: communication issues with our local contacts, finding a venomous cobra in the home where we were sleeping, the risk of "rat fever" (the cobras and rat fever had killed twice the number of people as the flooding itself). A quick testimony to show the faithfulness of God: I had initially flown into Bangalore in order to join my teammates and fly together to Kochi, our final destination. Having arrived in Bangalore, I walk to the information desk to get the details of our next flight. At that moment, the surprised customer service representative informs me that the Kochi airport is flooded and that all the flights for the next three days are cancelled. We being to pray and are trusting God.
Seeing as I have an actual boarding pass in my hand, I return to the customer service rep who gives me the same speech as before. I insist and ask her to verify the information with another person. She makes a phone call and suddenly becomes very embarrassed. She hangs up and tells me that she doesn't understand, but that there is, in effect, one flight that day and that it is ours ! We are overjoyed ! A few hours later, we take off. One of the passengers talks to us and asks what we are doing there...we explain and in talking with him we realize the miracle that has taken place. We are on a flight headed to the military airport in Kochi, specially chartered to send personnel to work on the Kochi airport in order to make it operational again ! There was no chance that "tourists" like us could be on such a flight, but nothing is impossible for my God !
I didn't take many pictures, but I will post a few so that you can have a visual image of the things I've described. May the glory of Christ continue to spread through the earth !
